Maternity photography in your own home

Maternity photoshoots are something special. Being invited to share just a snapshot of the anticipation of this precious little person being about to entire your life is just magical. Once baby arrives it is so easy for memories of your bump to fade, it can be hard to remember those kicks and wriggles, the feeling of having a little friend there inside you keeping you company all the time. Looking back on natural images of you and your bump in your own home will be so precious in years to come, and a beautiful thing to share with your little one too!

In-home photography in and around Southport

As a photographer, travelling around our local area meeting mums-to-be and their families during this exciting phase of your lives is one of the best parts of my job. I cover Ormskirk, Southport and surrounding areas, visiting you at home for your shoot. My in-home maternity sessions are really relaxed with no pressure, lots of candid, unposed images and an organic, natural feel. Lifestyle shoots are perfect whether you fancy a mum-to-be session focusing on you and your gorgeous bump, or if dad, siblings and furry friends want to join in too!

You don't have to live in an Insta-perfect show home for an in-home session to work for you. I love the challenge of seeking out the best areas and lighting to show off you and your bump in any given home. If you have a decent sized window and a chair, bed or sofa we can work with that! I use natural light as much as I can but always bring my flash along in case the window light needs a little boost as it sometimes does, especially on a grey day.

FAQs
When should I do a maternity photoshoot?

The best time to schedule your maternity photoshoot for is when you are far along enough to have an obvious bump to show off in your photos but not so late that you could risk missing out on your session if baby arrives a little early. A good guideline is around 28-36 weeks.
If you've already passed this point of pregnancy but still want to have a maternity photoshoot, just let me know that time is of the essence and I'll do my best to fit you in asap.

What is the best colour to wear for maternity pictures?

Soft pastels, neutrals and earthy tones always work well for maternity photoshoots, especially for an in-home lifestyle session. These colours tend to suit most people and don't detract from the focus of the images - you and your bump! Small prints such as ditsy florals can also be cute and add a bit of interest. Alternatively a rich, vibrant colour such as mustard yellow, burnt orange or emerald green can create a gorgeous contrast to the background especially for outdoor maternity photoshoots and can bring the focus onto you without detracting from the scenery. I generally advise steering clear of neons, primary colours and pure black as these can be a little overpowering.
I have a small selection of maternity dresses available to borrow for your photoshoot at no additional cost and am adding to this regularly. I am also always happy to provide styling advice if needed - just send over some snaps of your outfit options if you'd like my opinion, or let me know your budget and I can make shopping suggestions!
